More than 70,000 homes in Indonesia’s Central Sulawesi province were destroyed or damaged by the magnitude 7.5 quake that struck on September 28, 2018; triggering a tsunami and landslides that caused widespread destruction.

According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management, at least 1,948 people were killed and more than 2,500 people were injured and almost 75,000 displaced.

Rescue efforts have halted as officials say there is little hope of finding survivors under the rubble, but searches for remains continue. Hundreds of bodies are thought to be buried beneath the ruins of the two towns.

Mercy Without Limits emergency recuse team found scenes of destruction while houses and infrastructures were severely damaged.

The people affected by Indonesia’s 2018 earthquakes will need help for years as they rebuild their lives, homes, and communities.
